Pune, 2nd October 2025: The Pune Division of Central Railway marked Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a range of cleanliness and awareness activities as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign. The initiative, which aligns with Swachh Bharat Special Campaign 5.0 and Swachhata Pakhwada, was held across several stations in the division, beginning on October 1.

The observance started with a Swachhata Pledge at the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office in Pune, where senior officials and staff members reaffirmed their commitment to cleanliness. Similar pledges were taken at multiple stations, including Akurdi, Chinchwad, Khadki, Begdewadi, Pimpri, Dapodi, Shivaji Nagar, Vadgaon, Ahilyanagar, Miraj Junction, Shirwade, and Talegaon.

To spread awareness, the division also organized rallies and cultural programs. A rally at Pune Railway Station on October 1 highlighted the need for waste reduction and hygiene. On Gandhi Jayanti, street plays (Nukkad Nataks) were staged at Pune and Kopargaon railway stations to educate people about the harmful effects of littering and the importance of waste segregation.

Cleanliness drives under Shramdaan were carried out simultaneously. At Satara, railway staff undertook intensive cleaning, while at Kopargaon, the Shramdaan activity was paired with a street play to engage passengers in discussions about hygiene practices.

These initiatives form part of a two-week-long program by Central Railway, focusing on improving station cleanliness, raising passenger awareness, and encouraging community involvement.
