Pune Railway Station Terminates A.H. Wheeler Stall Contract Over Repeated Overcharging Complaints

Pune, 18 May 2026: The railway administration has terminated the contract of Multi-Purpose Stalls operated by A.H. Wheeler at Pune Railway Station following continuous complaints from passengers regarding alleged overcharging and other irregularities.

Passengers had repeatedly alleged that vendors at the station were charging rates above the printed Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for food items and packaged drinking water. Complaints regarding misbehavior and the sale of unapproved packaged drinking water were also reported through Rail Madad, social media platforms and other channels. The issue had also been highlighted in media reports.

While speaking to Punekar News, Divisional Commercial Manager Hemant Kumar Behera said that the railway administration had issued multiple show-cause notices to the licensee regarding repeated violations of contractual conditions.

Officials said no noticeable improvement was observed despite repeated warnings.

Following continued violations, the competent authority approved termination of the contract under Clause 15 of the agreement.

The order directed the licensee to vacate the Multi-Purpose Stalls operating on Platforms 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, along with six trolleys, on May 17, 2026.

Railway authorities stated that the action was taken in view of repeated complaints and violations reported against the stalls operating at the station.
