Pune, 16th May 2025: Rainfall returned to Pune city and its suburbs, bringing strong winds and widespread disruption to daily life. The downpour, which began around 1:30 PM on Friday after a cloudy morning and increased humidity, affected central areas such as the Peths, as well as Deccan, Karvenagar, Shivajinagar, Aundh, and Baner. Dark clouds also gathered over Yerawada, Lohgaon, Wagholi, Kharadi, and Hadapsar, raising the likelihood of further intense showers in these regions.

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, after a brief respite on Thursday, rain made a strong comeback on Friday. The heavy showers lasted for nearly an hour, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and causing significant inconvenience for residents who were out for work. Many sought shelter at grade separators, bus stations, and metro stations to escape the rain.

The sudden rainfall left roads across the city waterlogged, making it difficult for motorists to navigate. “The heavy rain caused chaos for people who had stepped out for work,” as the unexpected downpour forced many to take cover. After the intense hour-long spell, the rain subsided briefly, only to return as light showers after 4 PM, bringing a welcome coolness to the atmosphere.

Key areas in Pimpri-Chinchwad, including Nigdi, Akurdi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Dange Chowk, Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad, Ravet, and Bhosari, also experienced heavy rainfall. The weather conditions are expected to remain unstable, with the possibility of more rain in the coming hours, especially in areas where dark clouds continue to loom.
