Mumbai, 18th July 2025: Relentless monsoon downpours have once again disrupted life in Pune’s Dhanori, Vadgaonsheri, and Kharadi localities, prompting Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapu Pathare to raise a strong demand for immediate and permanent flood-mitigation measures during the ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Speaking in the Assembly, Pathare highlighted the recurring flood-like situation in these areas every year even though they were included under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) nearly 29 years ago.

“Residents of Dhanori, Vadgaonsheri, and Kharadi continue to suffer during every monsoon season due to the lack of proper drainage infrastructure. The administration has failed to act despite repeated complaints,” Pathare stated.

June 2024 Floods Still Fresh in Memory
Pathare recalled the devastating rainfall of June 2024, during which water entered homes in Dhanori’s Indraprastha, Laxminagar, Dhanlaxmi, Shriram Villa, and Mayur Kilbil societies. Valuable household items, official documents, vehicles, and children’s belongings were swept away. He noted that a temporary stormwater drain built by the PMC proved insufficient, and the mixing of sewage with floodwater raised serious public health risks. The retaining wall of this drain has also weakened, increasing the risk of structural collapse.

Similar flood-like situations were reported in:

Vadgaonsheri: Shubham, Gardenia, Ganraj Heights, St. Arnold’s School, Ujwal Garden, Anand Apartment, Karan Gharonda

Kharadi: Thitevasti and Lane No. 10

MLA Pathare’s Demands to the State Government:
Immediate construction of a new stormwater drainage system in Dhanori
Clearing and regular maintenance of encroached or blocked nullahs
Demarcation of natural water channels and publication of an encroachment list
Reconstruction of dilapidated retaining walls
Separation of sewage and stormwater pipelines to prevent contamination
