Pune, 22nd February 2023: Pune, a city in western India, has been placed sixth in the world for traffic congestion, as per a recent study by a global transportation analytics firm. The report states that the city’s traffic woes have intensified by 6% in the last year alone.

The study further reveals that commuters in Pune take 30% more time to travel one kilometer during peak hours, leading to significant productivity losses and an increase in air pollution levels.

The root causes of the traffic congestion are attributed to the city’s speedy urbanization, deficient public transportation systems, and a growing number of private vehicles on the roads.

The report suggests several measures that Pune can take to tackle the issue of traffic congestion, such as improving its public transportation systems and infrastructure, promoting alternative modes of transportation like cycling, and implementing traffic management policies, including congestion pricing and carpooling.

In conclusion, the study underlines the pressing need for Pune to address its traffic congestion problem urgently. Doing so will not only enhance the quality of life of its residents but also contribute to the city’s sustainable economic development.
