Pune, 24th January 2025: Pune’s growing prominence on the national and global stage is reflected in the significant rise in visits by very important people (VIPs) to the city. In 2024, Pune witnessed 853 VIP visits, marking a twofold increase compared to 2023, according to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

Among the high-profile visitors last year were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Pune twice, and President Droupadi Murmu, who visited once. The surge in VIP visits highlights Pune’s expanding role as a hub for research, military institutions, and industries, along with its significance in political and cultural events.

The city gained global attention in 2024 when it hosted the prestigious G20 conference. This major international event brought together world leaders, top officials, and business tycoons. Several programs organized during the conference further elevated Pune’s reputation as a preferred destination for important gatherings.

The rise in VIP visits has also led to increased security demands. In 2024, there were 322 visits requiring Z+ security, 28 requiring Z security, 439 needing Y+ security, and 61 requiring Y security. This reflects a significant jump from 2023, when 191 Z+ security visits and 171 Y+ security visits were recorded.

With its growing industrial presence, cultural importance, and military significance, Pune continues to attract political leaders, industry stalwarts, and international dignitaries. The trend of high-profile visits is expected to rise further, underscoring Pune’s growing importance as a key urban centre in India.
