Pune: Recurring Water Leakage in Mohammedwadi Sparks Outrage; Residents Demand Immediate PMC Action

Mohammadwadi, 2nd September 2026: A major water leakage near Raheja Circle in Mohammedwadi on Tuesday evening led to significant wastage of water, with the leakage reportedly continuing for more than three hours. The incident has once again raised concerns over the maintenance of the water distribution network in the rapidly developing areas of south Pune.
According to local residents, the problem is not an isolated one. Water pipeline leakages have reportedly become a frequent occurrence in Mohammedwadi and nearby areas, even as residents of Pisoli, Mohammedwadi, Undri and surrounding localities continue to struggle with inadequate and irregular water supply.
Large quantities of water flowing onto roads for hours have triggered anger among citizens, who questioned the lack of timely intervention by the concerned authorities.
Social activist Ashok Mehende expressed concern over the recurring incidents and called for immediate action to prevent further wastage.
“It is extremely unfortunate that such a huge quantity of precious water is being wasted while residents in several parts of Pisoli, Mohammedwadi and Undri are struggling to get adequate drinking water. The concerned authorities must immediately repair the leakage and take concrete steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur repeatedly,” Mehende said.
Residents have demanded an immediate repair of the damaged pipeline and a permanent solution to the recurring leakage issue. They have also called for regular inspections and maintenance of the water supply infrastructure in the area.
Raj Singh said that the repeated wastage of water reflects serious negligence and requires urgent intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
“Water is a basic necessity, and allowing thousands of litres to go to waste for hours is completely unacceptable, especially when many residents are facing water shortages. The PMC and the concerned department must take immediate action, identify the cause of these recurring leakages and fix accountability,” Singh said.
Residents have further demanded that the civic body conduct a comprehensive inspection of water pipelines across the Pisoli–Mohammedwadi belt and take preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The incident has once again brought attention to the growing concerns surrounding water supply and infrastructure maintenance in Pune’s expanding suburban areas, with residents urging authorities to act swiftly before the problem worsens.
