Pune, 29th August 2026: Repair work on the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur road (SH-55/NH-548D), a key industrial and traffic corridor around Chakan-Talegaon MIDC, has been expedited following directions from Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, the state government said.

The 54-km road has deteriorated significantly during the monsoon, causing difficulties for commuters and heavy vehicles. The Public Works Department has planned to complete repairs on around 40 km of the relatively less-damaged stretch within the next two days.

Around 14 km of the road passing through the MIDC belt is in worse condition. Officials have been directed to complete pothole filling, repair road shoulders and undertake necessary filling work on this stretch within four days.

The department has also planned to widen around 12 km of the road within the next two months, keeping in view the increasing traffic on the industrial corridor.

The state government had decided to undertake the road’s repairs through the Public Works Department for one year instead of the National Highways Authority of India, considering the urgent need for repairs and last year’s experience. A fund of Rs 59 crore was sanctioned for repairs to the 54-km road and widening of select stretches.

PWD had issued a work order in January 2026 and started work at some locations. However, the pace was affected by obstructions caused by utility lines along the road and difficulties in procuring bitumen due to the prevailing situation, the statement said. With the road deteriorating further during the monsoon, repair work has now been accelerated.

Bhosale has been reviewing the roadwork periodically and has directed officials to ensure that the repairs are completed within the stipulated deadlines.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) is expected to undertake permanent upgradation of the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor, with work planned to begin within the next three months.

The proposed upgradation is expected to increase the road’s traffic capacity and provide a long-term solution to congestion and recurring deterioration of the road, the statement said.
