Pune Reports 25 New COVID Cases Amid Statewide Surveillance

Mumbai/Pune, 1st June 2025: Pune has recorded 25 new COVID-19 cases in the latest update issued by the Maharashtra Public Health Department, as part of an ongoing state-level surveillance survey for Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). While the number of active COVID-19 cases remains low, authorities have urged citizens not to panic, assuring that all necessary treatment and testing facilities are in place.
According to official data, a total of 11,501 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Maharashtra since January 2025, resulting in 814 positive cases. As of June 1, there are 506 active cases statewide, with 65 new positive cases reported today, including:
- Pune Municipal Corporation – 25
- Mumbai – 22
- Thane Municipal Corporation – 9
- Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation – 6
- Kolhapur Municipal Corporation – 2
- Nagpur Municipal Corporation – 1
Health officials stated that all reported COVID patients currently have mild symptoms, and treatment is being provided under regular protocol. A total of 300 patients have recovered so far this year.
Since January, Mumbai has reported 463 COVID-19 cases, with a sharp rise in May (457 cases), and sporadic detections in earlier months.
Eight COVID-related deaths have been recorded this year in Maharashtra. Of these, seven patients had serious comorbidities, including conditions such as cancer, brain stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, interstitial lung disease, paralysis, and severe ARDS. The eighth patient, a 47-year-old woman, died after experiencing fever and shortness of breath.
Officials clarified that the increase in sporadic COVID cases is not isolated to Maharashtra but is also being observed in other Indian states and countries. The current spread is being monitored under the ILI and SARI surveillance framework, with testing and treatment available free of cost through public health facilities.
