Pune, 26th December 2022: Kalyani Nagar and Wadgaonsheri residents have stated they are struggling with noise pollution and nuisance from:

Pubs/Restaurants open-air lounge bars and rooftop restaurants.
Roadside eateries are operational throughout the night.
Modified silencers of bikes roaming around in Kalyani nagar around 2 AM near Cerebrum IT Park.

Restaurants, such as Unicorn House, Elrow club – Open air lounge, Cobbler and crew, Elephant and Co, Unwind, Waters: Bar & Kitchen, and Orilla, have been repetitive offenders of noise pollution and continue to do so.

Their nuisance is affecting thousands of residents around them. These restaurants lack soundproof areas and conduct open-air parties lasting beyond 3 AM daily.

Until now, residents have been following up with Yerwada police station and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). However, no strict actions were taken despite multiple police complaints due to alleged political patronage of these establishments.

People have been advised to dial the 100/112 emergency helpline, and the nuisance stops momentarily when police marshals reach the venue; However, it starts again – this is an ongoing issue.

Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar representatives and residents of Kumar Sophronia, Kumar Kruti, Marigold, Siddharth Estates, Silicon Bay, F residence and Bramha suncity met Balakrishna Kadam, Senior PI Yerwada police station on 24th December to take up this issue forward. During the short meeting, he agreed to send his team to monitor the issue, check with the restaurant for soundproofing, and look into the matter. Furthermore, after several follow-ups, PMC has issued a notice to these restaurants, but no further action is taken to resolve these issues considering it’s a residential area and rooftop restaurants should not be permitted to play loud music.

Residents have been struggling with this for more than a year now, raising concerns about authorities to help residents have a quiet neighbourhood.

Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar had scheduled a meeting with Ajit Lakade, Senior PI, Mundwa police station, on the 24th December. He has been consistently supporting members with the noise pollution issues of Koregaon Park and the Mundwa area. He has assured people that he has taken action on Waters, Orilla and Unwind in the past and will be sure that they stick to the decibel limit and get the soundproofing done. Ajit Lakade was exceptionally cooperative, and residents are thankful for his cooperation.

The residents also stated that hawkers have been mushrooming in the Cerebrum IT Park area and often cater to the public leaving rooftop restaurants after 3 AM. Since they get customers after midnight, it is attracting a lot of traffic issues in the area. While people wait for their food, they either play loud music in their cars or chat, disturbing residents.

Residents met the anti-encroachment officer in the PMC office to restrict the illegal eateries, especially near Cerebrum IT Park, near D’Mart Kalyani Nagar, which has been highlighted.

The restaurant crowd also creates a nuisance on their respective bikes/cars by playing loud music and few bikes have modified silencers.

For the Modified silencer issue, Ajit Lakade will connect the residents to the DCP of the traffic department and abide by ongoing exercises against the same.

Noise pollution not only causes hearing trouble but also adversely impacts the human heart, psychology, digestive system, hypertension and fertility. Senior Citizens, kids and even pets are getting impacted by such issues and are deprived of peace and sleep, which is a basic civic right.

Residents extended their gratitude to Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN) for guiding, walking the mile and supporting them at every step.
