Pune: Rapido Co-Founder And Legal Advisor Booked For Cheating Maharashtra Government By Operating Illegal Bike Taxi In Pune

Pune, 26th December 2022: Rapido Co-Founder Aravind Sanka and Legal Advisor Shantanu Sharma have been co-accused in a case registered by Pune city police for cheating the Maharashtra state government and the regional transport office (RTO) by operating illegal bike taxis and not paying relevant taxes.

Based on a complaint from an RTO officer, an FIR was registered on November 24 at Bund Garden police station against Roppen Transportation Services Pvt Ltd, the company which operates the Rapido Bike Taxi app. Today, police made Sanka and Sharma as co-accused and added sections 420, 505, 114 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The action was taken following a supplementary statement from the RTO officer.

A press release from the police states, “Even though all the officials of the Rapido company are fully aware that their online app is illegal, the responsible officials of the company are making statements on social media that can create unrest in society. Also, they are cheating the government by inciting illegal commercial use of private two-wheelers by transporting passengers without paying any tax to the government.”

No arrest has been made in the case till the filling of this report.
