Pune: Residents of Kalyani Nagar Protest Against Noise Pollution From Westin Hotel Events
Kalyani Nagar, 4th December 2024: Residents of Kalyani Nagar are demanding urgent action against persistent noise pollution caused by events at the Westin Hotel in Koregaon Park Annexe. The neighborhood, known for its tranquil environment, has faced relentless disturbances for over two years due to loud music from open-air events hosted at the hotel. Despite repeated complaints to the hotel management and local authorities, the issue remains unresolved.
December 3 Incident: The Final Straw
On the night of December 3, 2024, residents experienced yet another disruption as loud music from an event at the hotel exceeded permissible decibel levels. Noise readings in the residential area reportedly reached 59 decibels, far above the limits allowed by law.
“This isn’t just an isolated event. It’s been going on for years. We’ve complained numerous times, but no action has been taken. We feel completely helpless,” said Haresh Bharwani, a resident of Kalyani Nagar.
Years of Ignored Complaints
Residents have lodged formal complaints with the Westin Hotel and the Mundhwa Police Station, Pune City Police, multiple times over the past two years. Despite these efforts, the hotel continues to host open-air events without implementing soundproofing measures.

“The loud music disrupts our lives almost every weekend. Senior citizens, working professionals, and even children are affected. It’s mentally exhausting,” said Monica S., another resident.
Residents say the noise travels across the Mutha River, amplifying its impact on their homes.
Yasmin, a resident, added, “We’ve tried every avenue—police complaints, reaching out to the hotel management—but nothing changes. We’re left with no choice but to approach the media to highlight this issue.”
Demands for Immediate Action
Frustrated by the lack of response, the residents have outlined clear demands:
Enforcement of noise pollution laws to ensure compliance with permissible decibel levels.
Strict penalties for repeat offenders, including the Westin Hotel.
Mandatory soundproofing for venues hosting events near residential areas.
“This isn’t just about inconvenience. It’s a violation of our basic right to peace and well-being,” the residents emphasized in a formal complaint submitted to the Mundhwa Police Station.
Note: This report will be updated after getting a statement from the management of the Westin Hotel.
