Pune: Residents Raise Concerns Over Voter Data Verification During SIR Awareness Program
Mohammadwadi, 4th April 2026: An awareness campaign focused on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was held on Sunday, March 29, at the Sachin Ghule Office in Pune. The event was organized by the Undri–Pisoli–Mohammadwadi Welfare Foundation with the objective of educating residents about voter data verification and informing them about the upcoming electoral revision procedures.
The initiative comes at a significant time, as preparatory activities for the SIR exercise had already commenced earlier this month. This preliminary stage includes groundwork ahead of the official rollout, during which authorities are expected to carry out door-to-door verification of voter information.
Officials from the district administration stated that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will soon begin visiting households to verify and update electoral records. However, they also clarified that the official SIR process has not yet been formally announced and is currently pending government notification. The present activities are part of the initial preparation phase and will be temporarily halted once the formal process begins.
As these developments progress, several concerns are being raised by local residents and social activists. Rapid urban growth and diverse voter populations in areas like Kondhwa, Katraj, NIBM, and Mohammadwadi have made the process more complex, potentially affecting the accuracy and inclusiveness of voter data ahead of elections.
Commenting on the situation, Sadik Khan, Founder and Chairman of Mohammadwadi Welfare Group, pointed out the lack of awareness among citizens. He mentioned that many individuals are still unfamiliar with the SIR process, and several residents face difficulty in retrieving details of their parents’ constituencies from 2002, which is necessary for verification.
Zeeshan Jamadar, Secretary and current member of Little Hearts Co-operative Housing Society Ltd., Undri, also highlighted the communication gap at the grassroots level. According to him, insufficient guidance has made it challenging for people to fully understand the procedure.
Mohsin Khan, Secretary of Gagan Arena, Undri, raised practical concerns, noting that many residents are struggling to locate their names in the 2002 voter list. He emphasized the need for better assistance and support systems to help citizens complete the verification process efficiently.
Social activist Mo. Azhar Khan added that daily wage earners and elderly citizens are particularly affected due to documentation requirements. Without proper help, there is a risk that such groups may be excluded from the process.
Humayun Inamdar, a social activist from Pisoli, also stressed that awareness levels remain low despite ongoing efforts. He suggested that more localized campaigns and clearer instructions are essential to ensure wider participation.
Support from Local Leadership:
PMC Corporator Sweta Sachin Ghule of Ward No. 41 (Mohammadwadi–Undri), along with senior political leader Shri Sachin Subhash Ghule, former Deputy Chairman of Haveli Panchayat Samiti, extended their support to the initiative. They provided the necessary infrastructure for organizing the awareness program and assured continued cooperation for such community-driven activities in the future.

Saddam Inamdar and Mohd. Sirazul Hassan.
Alongside the official preparations, community organizations and local leaders have started independent awareness drives to support residents and encourage participation in the revision process.
The program organized by the Welfare Foundation is part of these community-led initiatives, aiming to reduce the information gap and prepare citizens for the upcoming verification exercise.
With the official announcement of the SIR process still awaited, both authorities and community members underline the importance of awareness, coordination, and timely action to ensure a fair and inclusive electoral revision.
