Pune Residents Turn to Online Petition Against Loud DJs During Ganeshotsav, Over 23k Extend Support Within Two Days
Pune, 28th August 2026: After elected corporators allegedly failed to address their concerns, Pune residents have turned to an online petition to oppose the use of loud DJs during Ganeshotsav. More than 23,000 citizens have reportedly supported a petition on Change.org calling for a ban on loud DJ music, within just two days of its launch.
The development comes after a meeting held at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday to discuss preparations for Ganeshotsav, where the decision to allow DJ music during the celebrations was unanimously approved. Citizens opposing the use of DJs were reportedly asked to leave the meeting, drawing criticism from several residents over the functioning of the civic body.
Citizens have also pointed to the neighbouring Solapur district, where a DJ-free Ganeshotsav is being observed. Many expressed disappointment that while such celebrations are being held without DJs in Solapur, residents in Pune were allegedly not allowed to voice their opposition to loud music during the civic body’s meeting.
The controversy has also intensified after the mayor, who had maintained a firm stand against DJs, reportedly backed down at the last moment, leaving residents disappointed.
Against this backdrop, the strong response to the online petition has drawn attention. With more than 22,000 people supporting the petition within two days, the issue of DJs and noise pollution appears to have moved beyond Ganesh mandals and civic authorities and emerged as a broader public concern among Pune residents.
