Pune: Residents Urge Immediate Action on Kalyani Nagar Garbage Burning, PMC Imposes Fine

Kalyani Nagar, 27th December 2023: Residents of Kalyani Nagar are grappling with persistent air pollution issues due to the recurring problem of garbage burning beneath the metro line, particularly in front of Reddy’s Restaurant.

Pradipkumar Raut, PMC Health Inspector, confirmed that fines of Rs 500 each were imposed on two individuals engaged in burning garbage in the vicinity of Reddy’s Restaurant. He assured proactive measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Expressing deep concern, a Kalyani Nagar resident, highlighted the distress caused by the noxious smoke and fumes emanating from the burning waste. She emphasized the impact on commuters forced to inhale the smoke and urged immediate intervention to halt garbage burning, advocating for robust waste management systems.

Another resident, urgently drew attention to the chronic issue at South Avenue, opposite Reddy’s Restaurant. The regular occurrence of garbage burning, especially during mornings and evenings, poses a threat to Pune’s air quality, reminiscent of Delhi’s pollution challenges. He stressed the escalating health risks, particularly with the presence of the JN.1 Covid variant. He called for swift and stringent action by authorities to address the menace and safeguard Pune’s environmental well-being.
