Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th July 2026: Amid heavy rainfall over the past two days in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, two construction workers were injured after a retaining wall collapsed at an under-construction site near Bhel Chowk, opposite Kotak Mahindra Bank in Pradhikaran on Sunday afternoon.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Fire Brigade received a call at 1.02 pm reporting a slab collapse. A team from the Pradhikaran fire station reached the spot within two minutes and found that it was a retaining wall, and not a slab, that had collapsed.

According to the fire brigade, eight to 10 workers were at the site when the wall gave way. Two workers were trapped under the debris and sustained injuries. Before the fire brigade arrived, local residents shifted them to Lifebridge Multispeciality Hospital on Walhekarwadi Road in Chinchwad for treatment, Venkatesh Durvas, deputy municipal commissioner and head of the PCMC’s fire brigade department said.

The injured were identified as Julu Biswas (28), a native of West Bengal, who suffered minor injuries, and Sunil Baitha (43), a resident of Gopalganj in Bihar, who sustained serious injuries. Fire brigade personnel later visited the hospital to ascertain the condition of the injured.

The rescue operation was led by Sub-Officer Gautam Ingawale along with senior firemen Bhushan Yewale and Ankush Bade, driver Mangesh Devgadkar, firemen Chhatrasing Bedwal, Suraj Kate, Irfan Beldar and Pankaj Chaudhary, and trainee fireman Sagar Lavand.

The incident comes as Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have been witnessing heavy rainfall over the last two days, resulting in several rain-related emergencies across the twin cities. According to civic officials, the Pimpri Chinchwad Fire Brigade has received 38 calls related to tree-fall incidents over the last three days, including 11 on Sunday alone.
