Pune: Retired Army Officer Dies in Hit-and-Run Incident During Morning Walk
Swargate, 6th December 2023: Shubhji Lal (85), a retired Army officer, lost his life during a morning walk. The incident occurred at around 5:30 am on Monday when a black SUV struck him while he was crossing the road connecting Poonawala Garden and Maharshinagar. The driver fled the scene after the accident, police said.
The incident took place on Irawati Karve road, with the SUV travelling from the Poonawala Garden side. The police have gathered partial details of the vehicle’s registration number and are coordinating with the RTO for more information.
Lal’s family friend, Shashikala Madiwana (57) of Gultekdi, has filed a police complaint. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving leading to death in connection with the incident.
Assistant Inspector Rahul Kolambikar said that Lal, a retired Army officer who had been living alone in his Gultekdi flat since his wife’s demise two years ago, met with a fatal accident during his routine morning walk.
According to Kolambikar, Lal was struck by a black SUV while attempting to cross the road early on Monday. Despite some fellow morning walkers rushing him to a nearby hospital, Lal succumbed to his injuries.
