Pune, 31st October 2023: The Maan Mhalunge town planning scheme has received the green light from the Maharashtra state government’s environmental impact assessment authority.

Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) announced on Friday that the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) authority of the environment department has approved the revised plan. Initially, there were concerns about the scheme’s plots being situated in a floodline area, prompting a reallocation of the plots.

The proposed town planning scheme covers an area of 250.50 hectares, with preliminary approval granted by the state government in 2019. PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal highlighted that obtaining environmental clearance is a significant step forward for the project. Notably, the town planning scheme had been showcased as a model at the Magnetic Maharashtra meet in 2018.

Deputy Collector Ramdas Jagtap informed that the arbitrator has concluded hearings after soliciting suggestions and objections and will soon submit it for final approval. Stressing the necessity of approval from the environment department, Jagtap explained, “A presentation was made before the EIA, and accordingly, the state government has given an all-clear.” Additionally, the authority has proposed the construction of roads within the scheme.
