Pune: Revenue Slump Pushes PMPML to Introduce Measures for Boosting Earnings
Pune, 12th November 2024: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), which operates a fleet of 1,650 buses across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA regions, serving 11 to 12 lakh passengers daily, has recently seen a decline in its revenue. Generating an average daily income of around ₹1.5 crore, PMPML is now taking steps to address concerns about a potential rise in the organization’s deficit.
In response, PMPML has instructed bus conductors, drivers, and depot heads to focus on increasing income. They are required to report to the Chief Transport Manager for routes that consistently fail to meet revenue expectations, and necessary adjustments will be made based on these reviews. If income drops significantly on any route due to negligence by drivers or conductors, administrative actions may be taken.
Although long-distance routes generally bring in substantial revenue, a recent dip in earnings from these routes has sparked concerns from PMPML’s Chairman. In light of this, Transport Manager Satish Gavane has urged depot heads, bus conductors, and drivers to actively prioritize revenue growth.
On weekdays, excluding weekends and government holidays, depot heads must personally check in with drivers and conductors when earnings fall short of expectations, asking for explanations and suggestions on how to increase revenue.
Additionally, the PMPML Chairman has mandated that a report on underperforming routes and any administrative actions taken be submitted by the 10th of each month.
