Pune, 1st November 2025: In preparation for the upcoming Pune Grand Challenge Tour, an international cycling event scheduled for next year, the district administration has initiated road development work covering 437 kilometres across Pune city and district. The work must be completed by December 15, and any delay will result in a penalty of Rs 1 lakh per day for the responsible contractors, officials confirmed.

The Pune Grand Challenge Tour will take place in four stages, traversing multiple parts of the Pune district. The event has been officially recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the world governing body for cycling, and will see participation from 24 teams representing 16 countries, marking a major milestone for Pune’s sports and infrastructure sectors.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi stated that the administration is closely monitoring progress to ensure that the roadwork meets both quality and time-bound standards. “All works must be completed before December 15. Contractors failing to meet deadlines will face a daily penalty of ₹1 lakh,” Dudi said, emphasizing that the administration is committed to ensuring world-class road conditions for the international event.

The initiative not only aims to enhance the city’s road infrastructure but also to position Pune as a premier destination for international sports and tourism.
