Pune: Robbers Attacks Police In Chakan; Officer Opens Fire In Self-Defense

Chakan, 3rd March 2025: A late-night operation to apprehend robbers in Chakan turned violent when Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar and Assistant Police Inspector Jarhad were attacked with a Koyta. Acting in self-defense, DCP Pawar fired two shots, injuring one of the robbers in the leg.
According to the police, the Chakan area has witnessed a surge in housebreakings and robberies in recent weeks. Last week, a robbery was reported in Bahul village. Acting on a tip-off that a group of robbers was planning a crime in Chinchoshi village at midnight, DCP Pawar and a Chakan police team set up a trap at Kendur Ghat.
As soon as the suspects arrived, the police moved in to arrest them, leading to a violent confrontation. The robbers resisted, attacking the officers, prompting DCP Pawar to fire in self-defense, hitting one of the attackers. The injured suspect is currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon Hospital in Pune, while another accused has been taken into custody.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has been intensifying efforts to curb the rising number of robberies in Chakan, and authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against criminal elements in the area.
