Pune: Ropeway Projects Approved for Shivneri, Lenyadri Under Parvatmala Scheme

Narayangaon, 20th March 2025: In a major boost to tourism in Shirur Lok Sabha constituency, the Maharashtra state cabinet has approved land availability and financial participation for four ropeway projects, including those at Shivneri and Lenyadri, under the central government’s Parvatmala Yojana. These long-pending projects, which have been in demand for years, are now set to move forward.
Member of Parliament Dr. Amol Kolhe had earlier requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to sanction ropeway projects at key tourist spots such as Shivneri, Lenyadri, and Bhimashankar. Minister Gadkari had agreed to provide funding under the Parvatmala scheme, provided the state government submitted a proposal.
Following persistent follow-ups by MP Kolhe, the state government submitted proposals to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for ropeway construction at 16 locations in Pune district, including Shri Nimgaon Khandoba, Sinhagad, and Jejuri and at 29 locations statewide, including Shivneri Fort, Ashtavinayak Lenyadri, Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, and Daraghat.
On February 3, 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), a company of the NHAI, and the Maharashtra state government for ropeway construction across the state. As part of this agreement, the state was required to ensure land availability and contribute financially to the project. The cabinet’s recent approval has now paved the way for implementing these projects.
Speaking about the development, MP Dr. Amol Kolhe emphasized the impact these ropeways would have on tourism and local employment.
“Shirur Lok Sabha constituency is home to several important tourist destinations, including Shivneri, Lenyadri, Bhimashankar, and Daraghat. Developing these locations will significantly boost tourism and create employment opportunities for the local youth. The economy of this region will benefit immensely,” Kolhe stated.
He also expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the state government for approving the ropeway projects and responding positively to the long-standing demand of the people.
Alongside the ropeway projects, Dr. Kolhe is also advocating for the ‘Shiv-Shambhu Corridor’, a proposed road network connecting Shivneri Fort, Ashtavinayak Ganapati Temple, and the Vadhu-Tulapur memorial of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
“Just as the ropeway projects have been approved, I urge the state government to expedite the approval of the Shiv-Shambhu Corridor. This initiative will further enhance connectivity and tourism in the region,” he added.
