Pune, 13th December 2023: On Tuesday, the Government Railway Police arrested Railway Protection Force (RPF) Havaldar Anil Pawar (52) on charges of raping and unlawfully confining a 17-year-old girl within the quarters of the railway premises on Tadiwala Road. The alleged incident occurred between September 12 and 19.

Following the rejection of Pawar’s anticipatory bail plea by a Pune court last week, the GRP deputy superintendent of police, Mahesh Devikar, stated, “Despite the denial of anticipatory bail, Pawar’s whereabouts remained unknown. Acting on a tip-off, we took Pawar into custody from the Pune railway station area.”

A railway magisterial court has remanded Pawar in police custody until December 18.

The survivor, having returned to her hometown in Chhattisgarh, filed a Zero FIR with the local police, which was subsequently forwarded to the GRP. This led to the formal registration of an FIR, initiating investigations. To date, six individuals, including Pawar, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The investigation unveiled that an NGO operated by accused Kamlesh Tiwari’s wife had occupied the railway quarters where the alleged crime took place.
