Pune: Rs 44 Thousand Spent In UPI Transactions After Elderly Man Forgets ATM Card After Cash Withdrawal
Chinchwad, 16th December 2023: A case of fraud has been reported wherein an unidentified individual took advantage of a forgotten ATM card left at a Pimpri Chinchwad Link Road ATM centre. The perpetrator successfully conducted multiple UPI transactions, resulting in the withdrawal of 44,297 rupees from the victim’s account. The incident occurred on the morning of December 12.
A 67-year-old resident of Chinchwad has filed a complaint at the Chinchwad Police Station, detailing the unfortunate incident. The police have registered a case against the unknown individual responsible for the fraudulent transactions.
On December 12, around 11 am, the complainant visited an ATM centre at Pimpri Chinchwad Link Road to withdraw money. He forgot to retrieve his ATM card from the machine after completing the transaction. Seizing the opportunity, an unidentified person exploited the information on the forgotten card to conduct eight UPI transactions, resulting in a total withdrawal of 44,297 rupees from the victim’s account.
Chinchwad police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
