Pune: Rs 5 Lakh Bag Snatching Bid Turns Violent in Swargate, 58-Year-Old Injured in Sickle Attack

Swargate, 23rd September 2026: A 58-year-old man was injured after three unidentified persons allegedly attacked him with a sickle while attempting to snatch his bag in the Swargate police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the incident took place around 2:50 pm near a Jain temple in the Salisbari Park area. The victim, identified as Rajesh Dashrathlal Oswal, was travelling on his two-wheeler when three unidentified men allegedly approached him from behind on another two-wheeler.
The accused reportedly attempted to snatch Oswal’s bag, which allegedly contained around Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. When he resisted, the suspects allegedly attacked him with a sickle, striking him on his back and ribs, before fleeing from the spot.
Oswal was subsequently taken to Adventist Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors have informed the police that his condition is currently stable. A CT scan is being conducted, following which further treatment will be decided, police said.
Police have obtained CCTV footage from the scene and are examining it to identify the suspects.
A further investigation is underway.
