Pune: Rs 5 Lakh Relief for Wagholi Victims’ Families, Free Treatment for Injured: Ajit Pawar
Reported by Tikam Shekhawat
Wagholi, 23rd December 2024: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited Wagholi this afternoon to meet the families of victims involved in a tragic accident earlier in the day. A dumper truck crushed eight people who were sleeping on the footpath near the Wagholi police station. The victims were part of a group of 50-60 individuals who had recently migrated from Amravati to Pune in search of employment due to a lack of job opportunities in their hometown and the Vidarbha region.
During his visit, Pawar interacted with the grieving families, who voiced their frustration over unemployment in Amravati and Vidarbha. They urged the government to create local job opportunities to prevent such migrations.
Speaking to the media, Pawar announced financial aid of ₹5 lakh for the families of each deceased victim after consulting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He also assured that the injured victims would receive free medical treatment.
Members of the Pardhi community, particularly women, also raised concerns about not receiving benefits under the “Ladki Bahan Yojna.” Pawar promised to address the issue by coordinating with government officials and the district collector to ensure the beneficiaries’ documents are verified and the scheme’s support is provided.
“The loss of lives in this tragic incident is deeply saddening. We will ensure the victims’ families receive all necessary support. The lack of local employment opportunities in Vidarbha must also be addressed to prevent such unfortunate migrations,” Pawar stated.
