Pimpri, 13th December 2022: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 995 crore for the rejuvenation of the Indrayani River, which connects the two pilgrimage sites of Sri Kshetra Dehu and Sri Kshetra Alandi. It has been approved in principle by the High Power Committee of the State Government.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Alandi in October. At that time, it was assured that a positive decision would be taken regarding necessary grants and planning to implement the Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project. Taking immediate action, a meeting of the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department was held for two days. After that, a decision was taken in a meeting of the High Power Committee recently.

River Indrayani flows for 20.60 km from Pimpri- Chinchwad city. Also, from Alandi, the river flows for 1.80 km within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Council. The other bank of the river is within the jurisdiction of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Therefore, the PCMC has prepared a proposal for jointly implementing the Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project.

The proposal was sent to the state’s Ministry of Urban Development. It was discussed in detail. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh were present on this occasion.

For the Indrayani river rejuvenation project, it is possible to get the expenditure incurred by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipality and Alandi area under the Government Amrut-2 Scheme from the Central and State Governments.

Similarly, through the PMRDA, it is possible to carry out work on the banks as well as the collection and treatment of wastewater from the drains coming from the Chakan industrial area under the joint association of MIDC and PMRDA.

As Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is the ex-officio president of PMRDA, this project will be easy to implement. Similarly, the administration intends to complete the works in the Alandi Nagar Panchayat area through Amrut 2.0 and Pilgrimage Development Fund.

For this, 25 per cent from the central government and 25 per cent from the state government and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s fund will be raised. According to Sanjay Kulkarni, Associate City Engineer of the Environment Department, an extensive project report of Rs 995 crores has been prepared through the contribution of Rs 526 crores by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Rs 395 crores through the PMRDA and Rs 74 crores by Alandi Nagar Panchayat.

Municipal administration is positive to implement the Indrayani river improvement project on the lines of the ‘Namami Ganga’ project. The project will be completed in collaboration with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, Alandi Municipal Council, Dehu Municipal Council, and with the help of Central and State Governments.

A DPR has been prepared in this regard. The high-powered committee of the state government has approved it in principle. Eknath Shinde had given directions for this project during his visit to Alandi. MLA Mahesh Landge has also followed up with the government for this project, and the work of the project will be sped up as soon as approval is received from the central government in the next two-three months. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh said this project will be a ‘role model’ for Maharashtra.
