Pune ‘Run for Water’ Walkathon on August 21: Here’s When and Where to Join
Pune, 18th August 2026: Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has appealed to citizens to participate in the ‘Maha-Walkathon – Run for Water 2026’ being organised on August 21 to mark Water Conservation Day.
The event will be held from 6 am to 9 am at the Police Parade Ground in Shivajinagar, Pune, with the aim of raising public awareness about water conservation and turning the initiative into a wider people’s movement.
Dudi said water conservation should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of government agencies, but as a collective responsibility requiring active participation from citizens.
“Water conservation needs to become a people’s movement, which is why I am participating in this campaign. I appeal to you to join as well,” Dudi said.
The initiative comes amid increasing urbanisation, population growth and rising demand for water. Authorities have emphasised the need to conserve available water resources, capture and recharge rainwater and promote responsible water use.

The walkathon will carry the message “Save Soil, Save Water and Build a Water-Secure Maharashtra.”
Dudi urged young people, students, non-governmental organisations, social organisations, government departments, entrepreneurs, women and citizens to participate in large numbers and strengthen the water conservation campaign.
He said every drop of rainwater should be retained and allowed to recharge the ground wherever possible. Collective efforts taken now, he added, would be important in reducing the risk of future water shortages.
The district administration has called for active public participation to improve water security across Pune district and Maharashtra.
Citizens have been urged to gather at the Police Parade Ground, Shivajinagar, at 6 am on August 21 and participate in the ‘Maha-Walkathon – Run for Water 2026’.
