Two arrested with MD drugs worth Rs 22 lakh in Pune’s Shirur

Pune, 18th August 2026: Pune Rural Police arrested two men and seized 110 grams of mephedrone (MD) during a raid in the Shirur area early on Tuesday. The seized drugs and a motorcycle were collectively valued at ₹22 lakh, police said.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Pune Rural Police’s Local Crime Branch and Shirur Police Station as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Drugs-Free Maharashtra initiatives.
According to a press note issued by Pune Rural Police, the Local Crime Branch received information that two men allegedly carrying a prohibited narcotic substance would arrive at Rajwada Chowk in Malthan village, Shirur taluka, to sell it.
After completing the required legal formalities and obtaining instructions from the sub-divisional police officer, a joint police team reached the location and conducted the raid at around 12.10 am on August 18.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Surendrasinh Bhairusinh Rathod alias Rajput, 24, and Shravan Tejaram Bishnoi, 31. Both were staying at Manish Shirole Farm House in Malthan, Shirur, and are originally from Barmer district in Rajasthan, the press note stated.
During a search, police allegedly recovered 110 grams of MD from their possession. A motorcycle was also seized. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹22 lakh.
A case has been registered at Shirur Police Station as Crime Register No. 744/2026 under Sections 8(c) and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Shirur Police are conducting further investigation to determine the source of the drugs, their intended recipients and whether other people were involved in the alleged supply network.
Police said the action was taken following directions from Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, who had instructed Local Crime Branch officers to intensify action against the illegal possession, transportation and sale of narcotic drugs and prohibited tobacco products in rural Pune.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Shubham Kumar of the Pune Division, and Shirur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ravindra Bhasale.
The police team included Local Crime Branch Police Inspector Pramod Kshirsagar, Shirur Police Inspector Vinod Patil, Assistant Police Inspector Nitin Kenekar and Police Sub-Inspector Govind Khating.
Local Crime Branch personnel Sanjay Padwal, Tushar Pandhare, Janardan Shelke, Sanju Jadhav, Raju Momin, Vikas Patil, Sagar Dhumal and Chetan Patil, along with Shirur Police Station personnel Sandeep Khedkar, Ravi Kale and Thosare, participated in the operation.
