Pune Rural Police Arrest Four Robbers Who Looted Cigarettes Worth Rs 5 Lakh

Pune, 6th October 2021: The slueths from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Pune rural police have arrested four robbers who had looted cigarettes worth Rs 5 lakh from a tempo driver on October 2.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Swapnil Dattatraya Kandarup (34), ) Santosh Prakash Pawar (24), ) Avinash Dattatraya Darekar (26), Yogesh Balasaheb Midgulam (26). Their fifth accomplice is absconding.

 

Tempo driver Anil Vithoba Wagh (42) from Parner taluka in Ahmednagar district has lodged a complaint with the Shikrapur police station in the case.

 

According to police, after loading the cigarettes from Chamadia Godown in Shikrapur, Wagh was going to deliver them in Shevgaon in Ahmednagar when the robbers intercepted him in a car around 3 am on October 2. He was kidnapped and released around 4.30 am near Wajewadi village in Shirur taluka.

After that, Wagh searched for the tempo and found it near the highway in the Bajrangwadi area. He found that boxes of cigarettes worth Rs 5 lakh 17,000 was missing from the tempo.

 

While investigating the case, police naik Mangesh Thigale received a tip-off about the robbers and they were nabbed near Gas Phata on Shikrapur-Chakan Road. Four accused were arrested while their fifth accomplice Krishna Devidas Sonawane (24) is absconding.

 

Police said that the accused Santosh Pawar is a notorious criminal and multiple cases a registered against him. All the arrested persons have been handed over to Shikrapur police station for further investigation.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of Pune rural SP Dr Abhinav Deshmukh and Additional SP (Baramati Division) Milind Mohite. The team included Police Inspector Ashok Shelke, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Kale, ASI Tushar Pandare, Mukesh Kadam, Head Constables Janardhan Shelke, Ajit Bhujbal, Raju Momin, and Police Naik Mangesh Thigale, Yogesh Nagargoje.
