Pune Rural Police Crack Down on Gutka Vendors in Lonavala, Seize Contraband Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh

Lonavala, 2nd May 2024: The Pune Rural Police have taken action against Gutka sellers in Maval Taluka, confiscating approximately Rs 1.5 lakh worth of Gutka and registering criminal cases against two individuals. This incident occurred at 1:10 AM on Wednesday (1st April) in Vadgaon Maval. A case has been registered at the Vadgaon Maval police station against Dibyanshu Shrimulchand Dhariya (aged 21) and Tanveer Shaikh, both residents of Keshav Nagar, Vadgaon Maval.

Upon assuming the duty of Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Lonavala Sub Division of the Pune Rural Police, IPS Satya Sai Karthik has continued his series of actions against illegal businesses and criminals. In a similar instance, a confidential source informed ASP Karthik that Gutka selling was taking place within the jurisdiction of the Vadgaon Maval Police Station. On 1st May, around 1:10 AM, ASP Karthik dispatched his detection branch to the location in Keshav Nagar, where the illegal business was reportedly being conducted.

In this incident, accused Dibyanshu Dhariya was found in possession of Gutka worth Rs 1,37,677, intended for sale, which was subsequently confiscated. His accomplice, Tanvir Shaikh, taking advantage of the darkness, managed to escape. Regarding this, a case was registered against the accused under IPC Sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison,etc.,with intent to commit an offence), 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), along with relevant sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, and Vadgaon Maval police are further investigating this matter.

This action was undertaken under the guidance of Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Chopade, by Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Lonavala Sub Division, Satya Sai Karthik, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Raul, and Police Constables Shubham Chavan, Ankush Naykude, Nitesh Kavade, Subhash Shinde, and Ganesh Yelwande.
