Sinhagad Road, 2nd May 2024: An incident of a familial fight resulting in a man becoming enraged and proceeding to burn around 15 bikes in a parking lot has surfaced in Pune. Two wheelers worth more than Rs 3.40 lakhs were damaged. The incident occurred at the Corporation Building in Wadgaon Budruk on Sinhagad Road on Wednesday (1st May) at around 2:15 AM.

Regarding this incident, a 45-year-old woman, a resident of Wadgaon Budruk, has complained to the Sinhagad Road Police Station. A case has been registered against a man from Dhankawadi by the Sinhagad Road Police who is currently absconding.

According to police reports, the complainant’s daughter and son-in-law had been arguing for a while. The son-in-law came to the complainant’s residence, and they argued again. After the argument, the complainant took the side of her daughter, which enraged the accused son-in-law. He went downstairs at night and set fire to the complainant’s Jupiter Scooty with the help of petrol. Due to the burning of the Jupiter Scooty, other two-wheelers nearby also caught fire, and 14 two-wheelers were damaged, resulting in an anticipated loss of Rs. 3,42,000.

The residents of the area are also claiming that the place where the fire took place has an electricity meter nearby. If it had caught fire, a major accident could have occurred. Drainage pipes and water pipes also melted due to the heat from the fire, resulting in the wastage of water.

Regarding this, a case has been registered against the accused under IPC Section 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to the amount of one hundred or (in case of agricultural produce) ten rupees) by the Sinhagad Road Police Station, and Police Sub-Inspector Amol Malusare from the Sinhagad Road police station is further investigating this matter.

PSI Amol Malusare told Punekar News, “The fire was a serious one. After the initial damage to 14/15 two-wheelers, people started moving their vehicles to prevent further major disasters. This happened at night, so people were taken by surprise. The fire brigade swiftly arrived and extinguished the fire. We are searching for the accused man.”
