Pune Rural Police Make Permission Mandatory for Drone Camera Filming
Pune, 13th August 2025: The Pune Rural District administration has made it mandatory for private individuals, event management firms, and professional photographers to obtain prior police permission before using drone cameras. The order, issued by the Additional District Magistrate, requires applicants to inform the concerned police station at least seven days in advance and secure formal approval from the officer in charge.
The directive has been issued citing security concerns, as the district houses key religious places, protest sites, and central institutions.
Authorities have warned that drone cameras could potentially be misused for terrorist surveillance.
Officials also noted a rise in complaints about drones flying at night in Daund, Baramati, and Shirur talukas, creating fear among residents. The administration has expressed concerns over possible misuse by sand mafias for monitoring illegal activities and the potential for thefts facilitated through aerial surveillance.
The prohibitory orders will remain in force for two months from August 12, 2025. Violations will attract penal action under Section 233 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the order states.
