Pune: Sangvi Police Assistant Inspector Nabbed By ACB While Accepting Bribe
Sangvi, 18th October 2023: The sleuths from the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) have arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Shahaji Jadhav (49), posted at Sangvi Police Station, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a 45-year-old woman. The illicit exchange was an attempt to avoid initiating legal proceedings based on a complaint.
The roots of this incident lie in a construction project taking place in Pimple Saudagar, wherein the complainant woman had entered into an agreement with a construction businessman named Karale. The contract stipulated certain obligations, including the completion of construction work within a specified time frame and the return of construction materials held by the complainant after project completion.
Allegedly, when the contractor, Karale, failed to meet the agreed-upon timeline, he demanded the return of the construction materials from the complainant before the project was concluded. However, the complainant refused to comply, stating that the materials would only be returned upon the completion of the construction work.
Frustrated by this, the contractor, Karale, filed a complaint against the woman at the Sangvi Police Station. In response, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jadhav reportedly sought a bribe of Rs 60,000 to refrain from taking legal action against the woman and to prevent the filing of a case. Subsequently, they negotiated, agreeing on a bribe amount of Rs 50,000 to be paid in two instalments.
After getting a complaint, the ACB set up a trap today. It was during this operation that Assistant Sub-Inspector Jadhav was apprehended while accepting the first instalment of the bribe, totalling Rs 25,000, from the complainant woman at the Pimple Saudagar police chowky. He was caught red-handed by ACB officers.
A case is now in the process of being registered at Sangvi Police Station.
