Pune: ‘Santa’s Science Lab’ at SPPU; Two-Day Post-Christmas STEM Workshop Announced

Pune, 4th November 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is adding a scientific spark to the holiday season with an upcoming workshop that blends Christmas cheer with lab-based discovery. The university’s Center for Science Education and Communication (CSEC) is organising a two-day programme titled “Santa’s Science Lab”, aimed at introducing school students to the fun side of chemistry, physics and electronics through festive-themed experiments.

The workshop will be held on December 26 and 27 and is designed for students who enjoy experimenting, building things and exploring science outside traditional classroom settings.

A Winter Lab Experience for Young Learners

Day 1 – Chemistry Adventures (Dec 26):
Open to students from Classes 6 to 10, the first day transforms the lab into a winter-style science space. Participants will:
Create artificial snow using polymer reactions
Observe colourful chemical changes reminiscent of Christmas lighting
Grow crystal snowflakes while learning the basics of crystallisation

Day 2 – Inside the World of Physics & Electronics (Dec 27)
Students from Class 6 onwards will get an opportunity to dive into the workings of modern electronics. Activities include:
Understanding the internal structure of a CPU
Dismantling and reassembling a CPU with expert supervision
Exploring basic circuits and decoding how familiar electronic devices function
