Pune: Sassoon Hospital Conducts Medical Check-up of 600 School Students Under ‘Obesity Mission’

Pune, 4th March 2023: The Government’s Medical Education and Research Department has launched the “Obesity Mission” campaign at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune.

The initiative began with a medical check-up of 600 students from class 7th to 9th, representing SV Union School, Agarkar Prashala, Atre Din Prashala in Somwar Peth, and Modern High School. During the check-up, students were given guidance on the causes, side effects, and prevention of obesity.

The success of the camp was made possible thanks to the hard work of Dr. Harish Umrajkar, Dr. Harshal Bhitkar, Dr. Minal Chandanwale, Dr. Punam Sancheti, Dr. Chaitanya Gaikwad, and Dr. Shubham Chaudhary.

According to Dr. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean of Sassoon Hospital, strict diet and regular exercise can help avoid obesity. Counseling and special treatment in this regard are available at Sassoon Hospital.

Dr. Harish Umrajkar, Associate Professor and Nodal Officer of Obesity Mission at Sassoon Hospital, Pune, emphasized the importance of preventing obesity from school age. By 2030, Indians are expected to account for 10 percent of the total number of stunted children worldwide. The Obesity Mission campaign aims to address this issue and create awareness among school students to lead a healthy lifestyle.
