Pune, December 29, 2020: The Swargate-Katraj BRT route on Satara Road will be started from January 1, Mayor Murlidhar Mohol announced on Monday. Most of the faults in the BRT route have been rectified and minor works will be completed in the next three to four days, informed Mohol.

The Swargate-Katraj BRT route is being restructured. The BRT route has not been able to start for the last few years. Against this backdrop, Mohol inspected the Swargate-Katraj BRT route along with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) office bearers and officials.

Deputy Mayor Saraswati Shendge, Congress group leader Aba Bagul, corporator Shrinath Bhimale, Rajendra Shilimkar, Praveen Chorbele, Gopal Chintal along with Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar, PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Rajendra Jagtap, Road Department Head V. G. Kulkarni, Head of Electricity Department Srinivas Bonala were present on the occasion.

Tender for Swargate-Katraj BRT route was issued in 2016. However, due to technical difficulties, this process was implemented in 2018. Work on the BRT route was delayed due to election code of conduct and the construction of two major flyovers.

Most of the restructuring works have been completed and the remaining minor works will be completed by December 31, said Mohol. The work was delayed due to technical process and various reasons but the errors have been rectified. Passengers will be relieved as the BRT route will be opened for traffic from January, Mohol added.

NCP protests

During the inspection tour of BRT route, protests were staged by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) unit of Parvati constituency. Under the leadership of Parvati constituency NCP president Nitin Kadam and Dilip Arundekar, NCP workers demanded to start the BRT and conduct the inquiry of the corruption. Dattawadi police detained the activists.
