Pune, 9th January 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University is set to become home to Pune’s first ‘Gen Z’ post office, a modernised facility aimed at making postal services more appealing, student-friendly, and digitally accessible. The initiative represents a major shift from the conventional perception of post offices as dull and outdated.

The project, spearheaded by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is part of a nationwide effort to modernise postal services. Pune is now the second city in Maharashtra, after Mumbai, to host such a facility, joining other states like Delhi, Gujarat, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh that already have Gen Z post offices.

The Gen Z post office will offer more than traditional postal services. Students will have the opportunity to intern at the facility, gaining practical experience in postal operations and exploring potential career paths.

Key features include:
-Free Wi-Fi zones with cafeteria-style seating and a small library
-A music room and interactive information boards about parcel and logistics services
-Digital and QR-based service delivery for faster, convenient transactions
-Aadhaar registration, updates, and guidance on Post Office Savings Bank schemes
-Availability of philatelic items, including stamps and picture postcards
-Comfortable seating, warm lighting, tea and coffee facilities, and mobile charging stations

Students can avail 10% discount on Speed Post services and 5% off on bulk bookings. The office has been designed to ensure efficient access to services, making it a welcoming hub for young and tech-savvy users.

With this launch, Pune joins other major cities in reimagining postal services, combining modern amenities with traditional offerings to create a vibrant, functional space for the younger generation.
