Pune: School Bus Catches Fire in Kharadi; Students Rescued Safely

Kharadi, 5th December 2024: A school bus from Phoenix World School, carrying around 15-20 students, caught fire near Tulaja Bhawani Nagar in Kharadi on Thursday (5th December) afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 pm. Fortunately, all students were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The mishap began when the bus started emitting smoke while in transit. Acting swiftly, the driver pulled over and, with the assistance of residents, rescued all the children.

Speaking to Punekar News, Fire Officer Sandeep Randive said, “Upon receiving the alert, three vehicles, including two fire engines and a water tanker, were dispatched from BT Kawade Road and Yerwada Fire Brigade Stations. A team of 11 firefighters extinguished the fire within 10-15 minutes.”

Water was sprayed to prevent the fire from reigniting. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, and further investigations are underway.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Fire Officer Sandeep Randive, with the assistance of firefighters Subhash Narke, Pranay Kavade, Shantanu Kokane, and Hrishikesh Pawar. Drivers Bajrang Lokhande, Hitesh Patil, and Akshay Raut, along with helpers Gaurav Kamble, Amit Wagh, and Vishal Gaikwad, also contributed to the efforts.
