Pune: Schoolchildren Forced to Walk Through Dangerous Muddy Road in Mohammadwadi, Residents Demand Immediate Repairs

Mohammadwadi, 20th July 2026: Every morning, dozens of students of Abundant Life School are forced to walk through deep mud and water on the approach road near Church Road in Krishna Nagar, Mohammadwadi, putting their safety at risk while travelling to school.
The affected stretch at Survey No. 40/2, Krishna Nagar, Church Road, Mohammadwadi, Hadapsar, has become nearly impassable. Even after the heavy rains have subsided, light showers continue to leave the road covered in mud, making it difficult for children, parents and pedestrians to cross safely. Students carrying school bags are seen carefully navigating the slippery stretch every day.
Nine-year-old Sakshi Navale, a student of Abundant Life School, said, “We have to walk through mud every day to reach school. Sometimes we slip, and our shoes and uniforms get dirty. We are scared while coming to school, especially when it rains.”
Residents said they have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities but no permanent solution has been provided. They expressed concern that the damaged road poses a serious risk not only to schoolchildren but also to senior citizens, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.
Pune Shiv Sena Chief Pramod Nana Bhangire criticised the civic administration over the issue, saying, “Instead of promoting dreams of a ‘Smart City,’ the Pune Municipal Corporation should first improve the condition of roads leading to schools. Does the PMC have any concern for the safety of young schoolchildren? The civic body should immediately repair this road and ensure safe access for students. If the authorities fail to take immediate action, Shiv Sena will launch a democratic protest at the site in the interest of the students.”
The incident has once again drawn attention to the poor condition of basic civic infrastructure in rapidly developing parts of Mohammadwadi, with residents demanding urgent intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation before a serious accident occurs.
