Pune: Schoolgirls Injured After Slipping on Muddy Lohgaon Diamond Water Park Road; Residents Demand Permanent Repairs
Lohgaon, 6th August 2026: Two schoolgirls and their grandfather slipped and fell on the muddy Diamond Water Park Road in Lohgaon on Thursday morning while they were on their way to school, triggering fresh complaints from local residents over the poor condition of the road.
According to residents, the trio lost their balance after stepping into a muddy stretch where the depth of the slush was difficult to judge. One of the young girls sustained minor injuries and was left in tears. Another student, who was on her way to appear for an examination, was also affected by the incident.
Local residents Mahadev Navalkar, Yogesh Gade and Gitesh Khot immediately came to their assistance. They helped the injured, cleaned them up and ensured the children reached school safely.
Residents alleged that repeated complaints about the condition of the Diamond Water Park Road have failed to prompt any lasting action from the authorities. “The road is frequently repaired by filling potholes with murrum (gravel), but during the monsoon, the material turns into slush, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians and motorists alike”, Gade told Punekar News.
Demanding a permanent solution, locals urged the civic authorities to undertake complete asphalt resurfacing of the road instead of relying on temporary patchwork. Until then, they appealed to officials to ensure potholes are repaired using methods that do not create muddy and dangerous conditions during the rainy season.
Residents warned that unless permanent repairs are carried out, similar accidents could continue to put schoolchildren and other commuters at risk.
