Market Yard, 21st May 2025: The season for custard apples (Sitafal) is just around the corner, and the first batch of the fruit arrived at Pune’s Market Yard fruit market on Tuesday. The initial consignment came from Kalewadi village in Purandar taluka, an area well known for large-scale custard apple cultivation.

Farmer Dada Kale from Kalewadi brought 21 kilograms of custard apples from his orchard to the Jay Sharda Gajanan stall at the Market Yard. Kale has cultivated around 2,000 custard apple trees over five acres of land.

The batch was purchased by fruit trader Subodh Zhende through an auction at the Market Yard. The fruit fetched a notable price of ₹251 per kilogram. Traders attributed the high quality of the produce to the early arrival of monsoon rains, which they believe will also benefit the overall crop quality this season. It is also mentioned that a significant increase in cultivation has taken place this year.
