Pune, 12th May 2021: Due to insufficient supply of vaccine and a high number of citizens eligible for the second dose, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to stop first dose vaccination for the 18 to 44 years and above 45 in the city from Thursday, May 13. In the next few days, the vaccine will be reserved only for the second dose of above 45 years citizens, the PMC has clarified.
The state government has decided to suspend vaccination for the 18-44 years group due to vaccine shortage.
In the city, about four lakh people are eligible for the second dose of Covishield vaccine, while about 50,000 people are eligible for the second dose of Covaxin. PMC does not have Covaxin doses and only 28,000 Covishield doses are available.
Vaccination will be done in 119 places
On Thursday, 119 centres will be open for the second dose vaccination for people above 45 years. Each of these centers has been provided 100 doses of Covishield. The second dose will be given to the citizens who have taken the first dose before March 29, the municipal administration has clarified.
People can walk into the nearest vaccination centre for Covishield without online registration on Thursday morning.
