Pune, 28th May 2023: After the completion of metro work from Vanaz to Shivajinagar, District Court interchange station from Mahametro, a test was also conducted, after which it was said that the work of Hadapsar route will be started from Mahametro in the second phase. However, no movement is seen from the metro administration regarding the Hadapsar metro route. Is the work being delayed due to the hurdles faced in the metro line at Hadapsar? Such doubts are being raised by citizens.

As per the decision of the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) meeting held in April 2022, after the first phase of work from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, it is proposed to take the metro from Mahametro to Hadapsar and further to Loni Kalbhor. Metro work is going on at a fast pace in Vanaz, Kothrud, Sinhagad Road, etc areas near the city. Metro has also been successfully tested in many places. Therefore, while it is expected that the work of the Hadapsar metro line will start today or tomorrow, there is no progress from the officials yet.

While bringing the metro to Hadapsar, if the Pune-Solapur highway Swargate to Hadapsar route is proposed, taking the metro to Hadapsar is going to be a big challenge for the Mahametro administration. Considering the route from Swargate to Hadapsar, bridges at Seven Loves Chowk, Arund Chowk at Golibar ground, Arund Chowk at Pulgate, Racecourse Route, Fatimanagar Chowk, Kirloskar Bridge, Magarpatta Double Decker Bridge can be major obstacles.

As the route from Swargate to Hadapsar is narrow, a large amount of land along the Pune-Solapur highway may have to be acquired for laying the metro pillars. Given the current complexities, this is not possible. Due to this reason, the proposed route of Hadapsar Metro is being neglected.

As a permanent solution to traffic congestion, the administration had provided a viable option like BRT. But, BRT could not run on Hadapsar to Swargate route. On the contrary, after making a separate route for BRT, there was a big traffic jam on this route. Therefore, the political leaders and officials of this area closed this route. Due to the problems encountered while implementing the BRT service, will there be similar problems in the metro line? There is such a discussion among citizens. Ample space will be needed on this road to implement this project.

Chetan Tupe, MLA, Hadapsar said, “We also demand that there should be a metro here to strengthen the public transport system of the villages of East Haveli including the Hadapsar area. We have already given this proposal to the administration through Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar. Mahametro administration is following up on this.”

“Given the current condition of the Swargate to Hadapsar route, it may take some time for the concerned departments and authorities to make any administrative preparations for bringing Metro to this route. For this, we will do whatever support the administration needs at the local level.” He also said that Mahametro should discuss the same.
