Pune, October 14, 2020: The trend in the past few days have shown that the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients are declining in the city. However, Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao has warned of the second wave of COVID-19, which is expected to hit the city in December and January.

Preparations are being made by the administration to avoid the possible situation. “The only option is for the citizens to keep themselves safe by adhering to masks and practice social distancing”, said Rao at a press conference today.

With the ease of restrictions, the possibility of crowding during the upcoming festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Christmas, is going to rise. “Hotels and bars have opened along with the extension of timings for shops, and no restrictions on passengers from other states. Therefore, the chances of a surge in cases are likely to be increased”, he said.

The first phase of ‘My family, My responsibility’ campaign has been successful. Almost 94 percent of the campaign work has been completed in Pune division.

As many as 14,000 COVID positive patients have been identified from the campaign. “We have started the second phase of the campaign from today itself, and is most likely to complete within the next ten days”, said Rao.

He further said, “It is up to the citizens to decide for themselves whether to avoid crowded places or not”.
