Pune: Security Guard Arrested in Goa for 16-Year-Old Murder Case in Sangvi

Sangvi, 7th February 2025: A former security guard has been arrested in Goa for a murder committed 16 years ago in Sangvi, Pune. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s Crime Branch Unit 1 detained Sunil Ashokrao Kangane, 39, a native of Nanded now residing in Goa, for the 2009 murder of Subhash Sopan Dhaktonde, 55, from Rahatani.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, Kangane was working as a security guard in the Sangvi area in 2009 when he killed Dhaktonde over a minor dispute regarding a change in his duty point. After committing the murder with a sharp weapon, Kangane fled the scene.

Instead of returning to his hometown in Nanded district, Kangane moved between different states to evade capture. However, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch continued to track him. Police Constable Pramod Garje of Crime Branch Unit 1 received information about Kangane’s whereabouts in Goa, leading to his arrest.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1) Dr Vishal Hire. The team was led by Police Inspector Suhas Avhad and Police Sub-Inspector Shivaji Kanade.
