Pune, 21st December 2024: In Indian tradition, weddings hold significant importance and are often celebrated lavishly, sometimes exceeding what families can afford. However, the new generation, leaning toward rational and logical thinking, increasingly prefers more modest celebrations. Even culturally rich Pune has witnessed this trend, with 5,500 court marriages recorded in the city this year.

Traditionally, substantial amounts of money are spent on pre-wedding events, extravagant ceremonies, and grand receptions, as weddings are considered a once-in-a-lifetime event. However, many young couples, along with some parents and families, are now opting for simple and meaningful ceremonies through court marriages.

Officials from the Marriage Registration Office, located near Pune Railway Station, informed that marriages are registered under the Special Marriage Act of 1954 through an online process. After submitting the form, verification is completed within four days. A one-month notice period follows, after which both parties can choose a date to register their marriage. The marriage certificate is issued immediately upon registration, making the process straightforward and efficient.
