Pune: Senior Citizen Climbs Into 3-Foot-Deep Pothole to Protest Dangerous Road in Upper Indiranagar

Pune, 13th August 2026: In an unusual protest over the poor condition of a busy road in Upper Indiranagar, a senior citizen climbed into a three-foot-deep pothole to draw the administration’s attention to the serious safety risk posed to motorists and pedestrians.

The pothole had suddenly opened up in the middle of the main road, which witnesses heavy movement of vehicles and pedestrians. The senior citizen’s action highlighted residents’ frustration over the deteriorating condition of the road and the alleged delay in addressing the issue.

According to local residents, the dangerous condition of the road had already been brought to the civic administration’s attention. However, they alleged that the issue was not addressed with the seriousness it required.

Following the protest and growing anger among residents, the administration carried out temporary repairs by filling the deep pothole with construction material. Residents, however, said that merely filling the pothole would not resolve the problem and demanded permanent and quality repairs.

Citizens said the deep cavity on the busy road posed a serious accident risk, particularly to two-wheeler riders. They warned that if the road is not properly repaired, a similar incident could lead to a major accident.

Residents have now questioned when the administration will undertake permanent repairs and who will take responsibility for ensuring the quality and safety of the road work. They have also demanded regular monitoring and maintenance of the road to prevent such dangerous potholes from developing again.
