Pune: Senior Citizen Deceived in Financial Scam via Fake Facebook Account; Case Registered with Wakad Police

Kalewadi, 16th February 2024: Mahendra Chindhu Dhiware, a 58-year-old resident of Kalewadi, has fallen prey to a financial scam amounting to Rs 94,500 through the manipulation of a counterfeit Facebook account posing as a friend. The incident unfolded between Tuesday (13th) and Wednesday (14th), prompting Dhiware to file a complaint with the Wakad Police Station.

As per the police report, the fraudster, operating using the mobile number 8249989484, crafted a deceptive Facebook account, masquerading as a friend of the victim. Establishing contact with Dhiware, the imposter cunningly gained the trust of the complainant.

The strategy involved persuading both the victim and his son to transfer Rs 94,500 to the accused under the pretext of selling household goods. Believing the transaction to be legitimate and facilitating the sale of their possessions, the plaintiff was unaware of the deceit until a closer inspection revealed the fraudulent nature of the Facebook account.

Recognizing the scam, Mahendra Chindhu Dhiware swiftly reported the incident to the Wakad Police Station. A case has been registered against the individual associated with the mentioned mobile number and Wakad Police are investigating the matter further.
