Pune: Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kulkarni Transferred Amid Aundh Assault Probe

Aundh, 16th June 2024: The court has remanded one of the six accused in police custody until 18th June. They attacked and robbed three people, including a senior citizen, who were passing by Parihar Chowk in Aundh with an iron rod. Three minors have been placed in a Remand Home for Boys for 14 days, while police are searching for two more suspects. Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kulkarni was immediately transferred on Friday (14th June) in connection with this case.

 

The accused gang committed the crime after consuming alcohol. Sameer Roy Chaudhary, the senior citizen seriously injured in the attack, was in a brain-dead state. Jupiter Hospital reported that organ donation procedures were ongoing late into the night. The accused in police custody has been identified as Jai Sunil Ghengat, aged 19, residing in Aundh. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) ordered the detention of three minors who were his accomplices.

 

During the attacks, Sameer Roy Chaudhary (age 77, resident of Aundh) sustained severe brain injuries, while Shreyas Satish Shetty (30, resident of Aundh Road) and Ramsobit Kumar Mandal (38, resident of Parihar Chowk, Aundh) were also injured. Shreyas Shetty filed a complaint at Chaturshringi Police Station. Following this, police obtained CCTV footage from the incident area, identified the suspects, and arrested them.

 

Investigation into the incident has been initiated by the Chaturshringi Police. Three minors have been placed in Remand Home. Meanwhile, after Sameer Roy Chaudhary’s death, organ donation procedures are underway.

 

Regarding one of the three minors detained by the police, a case of attempted murder has been registered before. This minor had been previously held in a Remand Home from March to May and committed this latest crime after leaving from there.
